Hemophilia is a rare inherited bleeding disorder that continues to pose a significant global healthcare challenge. Despite remarkable advances in medical science, there is currently no definitive cure for hemophilia, and management primarily depends on replacement of the deficient clotting factor. While this approach has transformed patient care, access to timely treatment remains a major challenge, particularly in developing countries and rural communities.
In many resource-limited regions, patients often face significant barriers in obtaining clotting factor concentrates due to limited availability, financial constraints, long travel distances, and inadequate healthcare infrastructure. Delayed treatment during severe bleeding episodes may result in irreversible joint damage, permanent disability, or even life-threatening complications, placing a substantial physical, emotional, and socioeconomic burden on patients and their families.
These challenges inspired a vision to explore a safe, affordable, accessible, and evidence-based supportive healthcare approach that could complement conventional hemophilia management. With the divine blessings of Shri Sadguru and guided by the timeless wisdom of Ayurveda, the concept of Raktamrut was born.
The vision of the Raktamrut in Hemophilia Research Initiative is to scientifically explore integrative Ayurvedic approaches for the supportive management of hemophilia, generate high-quality clinical evidence, improve the quality of life of persons with hemophilia, and contribute to the advancement of global hemophilia research through scientific innovation and humanitarian service.
Research And Development
The journey of Raktamrut began with a vision to scientifically explore the potential of Ayurveda in the supportive management of hemophilia. Inspired by the timeless wisdom of the Ayurvedic classics and guided by scientific inquiry, an extensive study of the Charaka Samhita, Sushruta Samhita, Ashtanga Hridaya, and classical Dravyaguna texts was undertaken to identify concepts relevant to bleeding disorders, Rakta Dhatu, Raktavaha Srotas, Yakrut (Liver), and hereditary diseases (Beeja Dosha). These classical principles laid the scientific foundation for the Raktamrut in Hemophilia Research Initiative.
The development of Raktamrut Vati evolved progressively through a systematic and evidence-oriented research process involving :

The conceptual basis of Raktamrut was derived from classical Ayurvedic descriptions of Raktapitta, Raktadushti, Raktavaha Srotodushti, Pandu, Kamala, Vatarakta, Yakrut, and Beeja Dosha, which demonstrate conceptual similarities with the pathophysiology and clinical manifestations of hemophilia. These correlations provided the Ayurvedic rationale for developing an evidence-based supportive approach.

After years of dedicated research, this work culminated in the development of Raktamrut Vati, the world’s first Ayurvedic proprietary formulation developed specifically for the supportive management of hemophilia. Raktamrut Formulation
Raktamrut Vati is an Ayurvedic proprietary polyherbal formulation developed for the supportive management of hemophilia. It has been designed based on classical Ayurvedic principles related to Rakta Dhatu, Raktavaha Srotas, and the management of Raktagata Vyadhis. Although Ayurveda does not specifically describe hemophilia as a clotting factor deficiency, classical concepts such as Raktapitta, Raktadushti, Raktavaha Srotodushti, and Beeja Dosha provide an Ayurvedic framework that is conceptually relevant to the disease and its clinical manifestations.
Hemophilia is a lifelong inherited bleeding disorder characterized by recurrent bleeding into joints, muscles, and other tissues, often resulting in chronic pain, progressive arthropathy, disability, and a reduced quality of life. Despite remarkable advances in modern medicine, challenges related to treatment accessibility, affordability, and lifelong dependence on clotting factor replacement continue to exist, particularly in developing countries. These unmet needs inspired the scientific development of Raktamrut as an evidence-based Ayurvedic supportive approach to complement conventional hemophilia management.
Formula (General Description)
Raktamrut Vati is formulated using carefully selected Ayurvedic ingredients traditionally valued for supporting blood health and the management of bleeding disorders. The formulation contains Udumbar (Ficus racemosa) fruit and bark, Ashwatha (Ficus religiosa) bark, and Nyagrodha (Ficus benghalensis) bark, collectively representing the classical Panchavalkala group.
These herbs are traditionally described as possessing Kashaya Rasa (astringent taste) and Sheeta Veerya (cooling potency) and are widely recognized in Ayurveda for their Raktastambhana (supporting hemostasis) and Pitta-Shamaka (Pitta-balancing) properties.
* The formulation also contains Swarna Bhasma, a classical Ayurvedic preparation traditionally described as Rasayana (rejuvenative), Balya (strength-promoting), and Tridosha-Shamaka (balancing all three Doshas). In Ayurveda, Swarna Bhasma is considered to support vitality and is traditionally used as a Yogavahi, enhancing the action of other ingredients.
The formulation is further processed using the classical Bhavana technique with decoctions or fresh juices of Rohitaka (Tecomella undulata) bark, Sariva (Hemidesmus indicus) root, Krishna Tulasi (Ocimum tenuiflorum) leaves, and Indian Cow Milk. These Bhavana Dravyas are traditionally described as supporting Rakta Prasadana (maintenance of healthy blood), Pitta balance, tissue nourishment, and overall systemic well-being, thereby contributing to the holistic Ayurvedic philosophy underlying the formulation.
